These canyons exhibit a curious combination of geographical events; Initial formation of the large spires, combined with the thin eroded layer of their midsections. Some theorize the eroded middle layer to be from a narrow wind channel. Others speculate the eroded layers to be of a different composition, naturally melting away with wind, rain and exposure.
