Fun facts about canyons: canyons are carved over millions of years by persistent trails of water that slowly cut and spread sediment downstream. This process can reveal rocks in the earth, some as old as 2 billion years old, while rocks near the rim are only several million years old. Youngsters!

One of my newest and suddenly greatest fears is encountering such a canyon but in ice. Those things can become rivers, holes and miniature canyons that can be literally a mile deep, with slippery edges that promise to seperate you from your hiking group permanently
