When left alone, any surface, really, can eventually become colonized by any number of things. The beneficial bacteria that help keep aquariums clean, for example, are always in the air floating around , ready to latch down into freshwater areas and grow. Fungal spores are present in just about every breath a person takes, and in some places like the tropics, chances are you’re also breathing in a considerable amount of Fern spores. It seems just about every class of organism is present in microscopic form throughout our atmosphere: plants, animals, fungus, bacteria, with millions more awaiting discovery
