Featuring the Native ‘I’iwi Honeycreeper, A treasured bird of Hawaii
Much like Darwin described, the honeycreepers of Hawaii have all developed unique beak shapes to eat the foods that are abundant there. This Honeycreeper sports a long and curved beak in order to get nectar from local flowers. Nowadays, with the introduction of non native flowers and insects, the ‘I’iwi eats a more varied diet and thankfully, has seen a small uptick in population, despite being endangered. Darwin would be pleased 🐢
