Description
Pineapples are more than a tropical fruit—they’re close relatives of the bromeliad family, a plant group with a fascinating water-collection system. Their funnel-shaped crowns direct rain toward internal roots, while underground roots provide balance more-so than nutrients. Closely related are tillandsias, or air plants, which absorb water the same way—no soil required. Ever seen Spanish moss? It’s essentially pineapples in miniature, growing in long chains.
