Eddie Aikau is a Hawaiian surfing legend.

The first official lifeguard at Waimea Bay, he’s credited with saving over 500 people from some of the most dangerous waters in the world. He rode waves others wouldn’t dare attempt, pushing the limits of big-wave surfing. But in 1978, while on a rescue mission for the voyaging canoe Hōkūle‘a, Eddie paddled out for help and was lost at sea. His legacy lives on in the phrase: Eddie would go.
